When a senior mentions in her session intake form that she is “really awkward when taking pictures and don’t know how to pose”, it can definitely make a photographer a little nervous. Going into the session, I was brainstorming ways I might loosen her up and get some natural smiles and movement from her. I was up for the challenge and ready to give it my best. This was completely unnecessary! From the first click of the camera to the sun setting while I tried to eek out “just one more”, Sara was absolutely amazing to work with. She has the sweetest smile and an easy laugh- even at my bad jokes.

For her session locations, we chose a variety of places with a natural aesthetic. She had mentioned flowers or forest green with mountains in the background. April in Colorado means wildflowers are hard to come by. However, we found great locations for her other requests. This was unbelievably my first time shooting at Dawson’s Butte. It definitely won’t be the last! I absolutely loved all of the trees ann the gorgeous mountain background. After Dawson’s Butte we headed to my super secret spot in Castle Rock, a little creek with big enough rocks to venture onto. And last, we headed back to my neighborhood for a mountain view sunset to end to the night.

Sara’s clothing choices were perfect for her personality and the setting. She wanted most of the session be done in more casual clothing as that is what represents her the best. I always recommend layers to create even more variety without a full change. This first row of images shows exactly what I mean! She’s wearing the same black tank, but we added a flannel for a few and then this white sweater which looked great on and off her shoulders. This was my last senior session for the 2022 senior class. I couldn’t have asked for a better senior to cap off the season. It’s a little unbelievable that my FIRST session for the 2023 class at the end of May! I am booking for June and August at this time.
